Battle of the Crater Pen and Ink Map
Speaking of The Battle of the Crater, I found this at the Library of Congress. This is a zoomed in view of pages of what appears to be a journal. Whether intended or not, it implies by its shape a salient (see previous post: Military History Word of the Day – “Salient”). The author appears to be unknown.

Simply an AMAZING site…as eye-catching as it is useful. And very user-friendly. For all current and upcoming writers, I would be honored if you will keep me in mind whenever you or folks you know may need maps for any publications or personal use.
For nearly twenty years I’ve been privileged to do maps for some of the country’s leading Civil War historians…Stephen Sears, James I. Robertson, Gary Gallagher and Robert K. Krick, among many others.
A book I co-edited, Lone Star Confederate: A Gallant and Good Soldier of the Fifth Texas Infantry, also includes a dozen of my maps. (Published by Texas A&M University Press, this book won the 2004 “Best Book on Texas in the Confederacy” presented by the Sons of Confederate Veterans.)
In addition my maps have appeared regularly in Civil War Times and VIETNAM magazines – (Assignments need not be limited to Civil War topics.)
I will gladly answer any questions about my work that you or others may have, and look forward to hearing from you.
